So one day hidimba (grandmother of barbarik and a wife of bheema) ask barbarik to help and stand by losing side as she think pandvas could lose against kaurava. So barbarik promised his grandmother to help loosing side. But if he went to war he would have to stand by the losing side as per his promise whether it was pandvas or kauravas. And if this had happened there would have been no result of war. So that's why lord krishna ask barbarik to not to take a part in the war and ask him for his head and without a second thought barbarik gave his head to Lord krishna and that's why lord krishna gave barbarik a boon that he will be worshipped as khatu shyamji as he sacrifice his life. So this is the story of khatu shyamji maharaja and khatu shyam temple is situated in khatu village, Sikar district, Rajasthan.

The story of Khatu Shyam Ji is a popular Hindu legend associated with the deity known as Shyam Baba or Khatu Shyam Ji. The story revolves around a devotee named Barbarika or Shyam, who was a great warrior and an incarnation of Lord Krishna's grandson.

According to the legend, Barbarika possessed extraordinary powers and was blessed with three divine arrows given by Lord Krishna. These arrows were said to be capable of destroying the entire universe. When the great Kurukshetra war between the Pandavas and Kauravas was about to begin, Barbarika wanted to participate and fight on the side of the righteous Pandavas.

As Barbarika set out to join the battle, Lord Krishna tested his devotion and approached him in the guise of a Brahmin. Krishna asked him how many arrows he had and to what extent he would be involved in the war. Barbarika proudly replied that with one arrow, he could destroy all his enemies in the world. Krishna then challenged him to demonstrate his skills.

In response, Barbarika attempted to shoot an arrow towards a tree, intending to pierce it with the arrowhead. However, before he could release the arrow, Krishna placed his foot behind the tree. Barbarika's arrow pierced Krishna's foot, causing him to bleed. Pleased with Barbarika's devotion, Krishna blessed him and granted him a boon.

Barbarika requested that he be able to witness and be a participant in the entire war. Krishna granted his wish, but also imposed a condition that Barbarika's participation would be in the form of fighting for the weaker side.

Thus, Barbarika, now known as Khatu Shyam Ji, became an observer and participant in the Mahabharata war. After the war ended, Krishna blessed him with the power to grant the wishes of his devotees. Over time, Khatu Shyam Ji gained a reputation as a benevolent deity known for fulfilling the prayers and wishes of his devotees, especially those seeking justice and protection.

Today, the temple of Khatu Shyam Ji in Khatu village, Rajasthan, is a popular pilgrimage site, attracting a large number of devotees who seek his blessings and divine intervention in their lives.
